8TH GRADE TRANSITION
April 18, 2008
To the Parents and/or Guardians of the Class of 2012!
Grade to grade transitions are monumental for students. With the exception of the completion of high school, absolutely nothing tops the move from middle school years to high school ones. High school marks the beginning of rigorous academic work, high expectations, preparation for life beyond high school, and above all it is a time of fun and excitement. Preparation for this right of passage from middle school to high school is crucial to a student’s success. The administration of Godwin and Gar-Field have joined together to develop activities that will provide each eighth grade student with a snapshot of what high school life entails. Thus, whether your children attend Forest Park, Freedom, Gar-Field, Hylton, Potomac, Woodbridge or any other High School, this event will be beneficial. The details are as follows:
Place: Gar-Field Senior High School
Date: May 2, 2008
Time: 8:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
The activities for this day include, but are not limited to, conversations with a student panel, dialogue with guidance counselors, information about Virginia High School League co-curricular activities, and a tour of high school classes. Ultimately, our focus is to better prepare students for the next venture on which they are about to embark. We want to ensure that each student positions him or herself for all the positive opportunities that will come their way during their high school years. A
field trip permission form should be completed and returned to one of the student’s Godwin Middle School teachers no later than Friday, April 25, 2008. Forms can be picked up in the office. As educators, we are excited about working together to continue the process of providing all students with a quality education.
Sincerely,
